Average Week To Give Birth For First-Time Moms

Service Details

After being successful in getting pregnant, you (females of reproductive age) are eager to know the time when you will see your baby. If you are among first-time moms, your eagerness is very high. You want to know everything about giving birth to your baby. And knowing the average week to give birth to a baby is such one.

You are very excited to know the estimated due date (EDD). As per a study published in the National Library of Medicine, https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC4390179/, around 80% of pregnant females deliver babies during 37 to 40 weeks of their pregnancies. As a first time mom, you need to know more things about delivery dates.

What does it mean to term pregnancy?

Since the inception of human civilization, the baby has been termed as being born at term if it was born between 37 weeks and 41 weeks 6 days. According to a 2012 study, the pregnancy or baby birth is termed as:

  • Preterm or early term babies - the babies born between 37 weeks 0 days and 38 weeks 6 days
  • Full term babies - the babies born between 39 weeks 0 days and 40 weeks 6 days
  • Late term babies - the babies born between 41 weeks and 41 weeks 6 days
  • Post term babies - the babies born at or later 42 weeks 0 days

Estimated due dates differ from one mom to another

Your due date can differ from other pregnant women. So, it is hard to say anything about the average week to give birth for first-time moms. Your average week or due date largely depends on your menstrual cycle. With the addition of 40 weeks or 280 days to the first date of your last period, you can calculate your estimated due date (EDD).

The calculation of EDD is easy. However, its accuracy relates to some facts. Your doctor or sonogram reports can’t state the right or exact delivery date and time. As per a few studies, only 5% of pregnant females deliver their babies on the EDDs. And hence, your actual delivery date can be earlier or later than the estimated due date.

Effect of your mother’s childbirth history on average week of your first delivery

Many studies have found a connection between mothers’ childbirth history and first-time moms. As a first-time mom, you should look at the history of your mother’s childbirth before getting any idea about the average week or time of giving birth to your baby for the first time. You can deliver your baby later or earlier in your pregnancy if your mother delivered the baby earlier or later than the estimated due date.

You can deliver your baby earlier or later in your pregnancy

As per a few research paper findings, around 11% of pregnant women have premature babies or preterm deliveries. Some first-time moms take longer to deliver their babies. The time could be 40 to 42 weeks of their pregnancies. If you are under 30, it is possible for you to give birth to your baby later in your pregnancy. You can deliver a baby boy sooner than a baby girl. There are risks associated with preterm or late deliveries. So, you should stay in constant touch with your doctor or midwife.

At Angel Fertility Clinic, we help pregnant women know their estimated due date and provide the requisite treatment and care. Our doctors and healthcare professionals are very friendly to patients and leave no stone unturned to facilitate them in their pregnancy journey.
